Meet The 112-Year-Old Woman Who Has Smoked 30 Cigarettes A Day for 95 YEARS

 A woman who is 112 years old credits reaching her age to smoking 30 cigarettes a day for 95 years.

Batuli Lamichhane took up the habit when she was 17 years old and hasn't stopped since.

Born in March 1903, the Nepalese woman said smoking had helped her outlive everyone else in her village, including almost all of her own children.

"I don't really care how old I am," she said.                               But I am old nonetheless. I have seen a lot of things change during my lifetime.

"I have been smoking for over 95 years. There is nothing wrong with smoking."

But Ms Lamichhane hasn't been smoking commercially made cigarettes - she smokes handmade "beedis" - tobacco wrapped in tendu leaf.

The roof of Ms Lamichhane's house caved in recently following an earthquake, but she refuses to be relocated, and lives off donations from a nearby Hindu temple.

"People of this modern age have too much stress," she said.

"And those who do not work or are idle in their old age won't live long. So you have to be active and stress free.

Manchester United transfer rumours and news: Red Devils fear upsetting Ryan Giggs; Real Madrid expect Cristiano Ronaldo interest

 Manchester United are facing yet more off-field difficulties with the future of Ryan Giggs becoming an increasingly contentious issue at Old Trafford, according to reports. The Welshman is assistant manager to beleaguered boss Louis van Gaal and remains chiefly among their thoughts in succeeding former Barcelona head coach. 

The Daily Mirror, however suggest the Red Devils hierarchy are becoming concerned they may alienate Giggs if he is overlooked for the post once it becomes available. Jose Mourinho, the former Chelsea manager, remains the favourite to replace Van Gaal but United purists would prefer their former winger to continue his 28-year association with the club from the dugout.

The 42-year-old may also be reluctant to be caretaker boss again, unless it leads to a permanent job.                       Van Gaal will never voluntarily step aside, even for a close personal friend, as manager of the North West giants, says his biographer Maarten Meijer. The Dutchman is on the brink at United, 10 points adrift of Premier League leaders Leicester City, and dumped out of both the Champions League and Capital One Cup.

But Meijer remains confident Van Gaal is better than the candidates to replace him: "The British media have suggested one alternative after another as replacement. Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola are just some of the names that have been mentioned. The most surprising suggestion has been Mourinho.

"This is the man who was fired mid-season, after taking Chelsea to the threshold of the relegation zone. Van Gaal and Mourinho are friends, but he is not going to step aside voluntarily for his Portuguese colleague, or for anyone else.         Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has admitted he isn't surprised United and Paris Saint-German are interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese winger, now 30-years-old, remains the main man in the Spanish capital but may be allowed to leave to continue Gareth Bale's emergence.

United are keen to bring their former superstar back to Old Trafford but Paris remain a constant thorn in their side of their plans. Perez said: "I am not surprised. Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world and he is the leader of Real Madrid. It's normal that other clubs dream of having him. He is Di Stefano's heir and he is very happy here, so he is not going to leave Real Madrid. Emmanuel Adebayor to Crystal Palace: Former Arsenal, Spurs and Man City man gets mixed reaction at new club

   Emmanuel Adebayor has joined Crystal Palace and the reaction was... mixed, to say the least.

The Togolese striker has been without a club since September when and Tottenham Hotspur decided to terminate his contract at White Hart Lane.

Adebayor, now 31, is undoubtedly talented, as his record of 96 goals in 230 Premier League games proves - Didier Drogba (104) is the only African player to have scored more in the division.                      But while his statistics and back catalogue looks great on paper, his attitude and work rate often tells a different story, as fans of Arsenal, Manchester City and Spurs will admit.

While Adebayor has had periods where he could claim to be among the best strikers in the Premier League, at other times he has been accused of being a greedy, lazy waste of space.

However, with Crystal Palace's current crop of strikers scoring just one league goal between them (that was a penalty) it was a risk worth taking by Alan Pardew.

Ryan Giggs future: Manchester United fear legend will leave if not given a shot at Louis van Gaal's job

Manchester United fear losing assistant manager Ryan Giggs if the Welshman is not offered the top job when Louis van Gaal leaves, according to reports. 

Speculation is rife that Van Gaal will be dismissed if the Red Devils fall to defeat to Derby County in the FA Cup fourth round tie at the iPro Stadium on Friday night. The 64-year-old's side have already been dumped out of the Champions League and Capital One Cup at early stages.

The suggestion that Van Gaal offered his resignation on Saturday evening, following the 1-0 home defeat to Southampton, appear premature but Ed Woodward, the chief executive, is known to have talked his manager out of leaving in the past.

The Daily Mirror report that United chiefs are growing increasingly alarmed that Giggs may look elsewhere for his first full-time managerial role if overlooked for the post.                             Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is believed to have compiled a six-page dossier to the Red Devils hierarchy last week outlining his suitability for the role should the position become vacant. 

But senior members of the decision-making process are said to have deep reservations about appointing the cantankerous Portuguese.

Following the defeat to Southampton, Van Gaal's men are 10 points adrift of Premier League leaders Leicester City and five short of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. 

The uncertainty is likely to have caused considerable unrest among the first-team squad with Woodward said to have consulted a host of players about the escalating situation.

  WARRI—TWO lecturers at Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, Professor Christopher Orubu and Dr. Emmanuel Biri, have condemned the demonization of Urhobo culture under the facade of Christianity.

Both lecturers, speaking at the first Ughievwen Cultural Carnival,  staged at Otughievwen, headquarters of Ughelli South Local Government Area, said the trend was robbing  Urhobo nation and Ughievwen Urhobo in particular, economic oppor-tunities to sell its culture and heritage to the outside world.

Professor Orubu stated that as a people, Ughievwen of Urhobo evolved with peculiar cultural practices and heritage giving its sons and daughters a self- identity that cannot be sustained by any borrowed culture.

He said: "Our four pivots of chieftaincy, Adeh, Eboh, Igbun-Otor and Igbun-Eshovwin, which have been handed down from generations have exclusive entertainment carriages in various festivals, which were the envy of non-natives, who throng the community from far and near to share in the fun.                            Demonization of culture

"Today, in the name of Christianity, these attractions are fast fading away. We demonize our culture on the notion that they are fetish, but even the Pope has entered shrines, not of Christians, and acknowledged the sense of faith in God by adherents of the deities worshipped in such shrines."

In a separate lecture on The Past, Present and Future of the Ughievwen People, Dr. Biri of the Department of Mass Communication, DELSU, said that some of the core cultural values of Ughievwen Urhobo, being so demeaned in the land, were being celebrated with growing global recognition in other climes.

Biri asserted: "The Epha (celebration of bare breast maidens), which is Urhobo's appreciation of the purity in women, is gradually going into extinction on the notion that it is fetish and obscene.

"But in Swaziland, the same heritage has become an annual tourist attraction visited by several people from around the world.

"In Ughievwen, ancestral worship has also been condemned as demonic and fetish whereas in Japan, the second largest economy in the world, ancestral veneration remains a valued culture.

"Japanese, including the most highly placed, go to venerate the graves of their dead parents, decorating them with flowers.".                      Why we organized carnival

Chief Enyote Gbogbo, who headed the team of organizers of the event, told Niger Delta Voice: "The pains expressed by the DELSU scholars underpin the motivation for originating the Ughievwen Cultural Carnival.

FG’ll recover $750m Abacha loot soon — Minister

     ABUJA—THE Federal Government yesterday said that it would soon embark on the recovery of additional $750 million said to be "Abacha loot" yet pending.

The Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami disclosed this during an interactive session with the House of   Representatives Committee on Justice in Abuja.

The Minister further stated that his ministry was aiming at recovering on behalf of the Federal Government £6.9 million said to have been misappropriated by a former governor of Delta State, James Ibori.

He said: "In respect of of the recovery of looted assets, the ministry will engage in an agree waive policy of using Mutual Legal Assistance Agreements or other bilateral and multilateral instruments to seek cooperation with other jurisdictions to ensure the repatriation of illicitly- acquired assets in foreign jurisdictionsThe collaboration will equally involve the engagement of foreign- based Counsel to attend to matters on behalf of the Federal Government. Low- hanging fruits being targeted in this initiative include $750 million 'Abaca loot' as well as the sum of GBP 6.9 million of the 'Ibori loot'.

"On the long run, the ministry will be in a position to coordinate the recovery of billions of Dollars in foreign jurisdictions, based on current estimations."

On the issue of terrorism, the AGF said, "My ministry is currently processing approximately 800 terrorism cases   for prosecution . The resources required for the successful prosecution of these cases as well as the general coordination of the Criminal Justice Sector as envisaged under the ACIA, were fully captured in the original  proposal made by the ministry to the Ministry of Finance.

"The successful prosecution of the above priorities will require the necessary balance of personnel capacity including staff training, travels and tours, resource capacity in terms of adequate budgetary allocations and legislative support by the National Assembly through the passage of all requisite Bills, as may be presented by the executive arm.

"The anti-corruption campaign will involve the deployment of resources by the ministry to assess and prosecute the requisite cases in collaboration with the anti-corruption agencies, pursuit to the overriding powers of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice in Sections 150 and 174 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

"In respect of measures to ensure the expeditious prosecution of terrorism, the ministry's efforts will be anchored on the successful implementation of the administration of criminal justice Act 2015, ACJA, and the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act 2013.".               Source: Vanguard News    

WEST AFRICANS ARRESTED OVER FAKE CURRENCY CARTEL DENIED BAIL

    Two west Africans arrested  on suspicion of leading a transnational fake currency ring were on Wednesday denied bail by a Nairobi court.

Nairobi Milimani Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo denied the two foreigners bail and argued that prosecution had proven that the charges are serious and the two are a threat to the country's economic security.

Mr Ousman Ibrahim Bako, a Cameroonian, and Mr Mohammed Sani alias Dr Mustafa from Niger, were arrested on June 18, 2016 following reports that they were involved in a multi-billion shilling racket.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters in Nairobi arrested one suspect in Kilimani, while his alleged accomplice was arrested at Diamond Park Estate, off Mombasa Road.

The two were found with money printing machines, cutters, scanners, five safes, two computers, chemicals, masks and foil paper.

Even if I had a child, I don't think it is something I should be ashamed of. Instead, I would come out plainly and declare that I am a father. Everybody makes mistakes. Anyway, fast forward to the following year, Wizkid began dating Binta which would continue off and on for 2 years. She told us that when she learned that she was pregnant in 2015, the rapper said that he was going to embrace being a dad this time around and that he'd certainly care for the child.

However, he kept the child a secret from fans again! Not only has he not seen his son yet, but he hasn't shown much interest in being a father and Binta wants that to change! An unidentified student has died of Lassa fever in Ebonyi State. The state governor Dave Umahi made this known at a town hall meeting in Abakalili, the state capital yesterday January 26th. Speaking at the meeting, Umahi urged residents of the state to immediately go to the hospital for proper testing anytime they fall ill
 "It may be Lassa fever and if it is detected early, it can be treated than when it reaches an advanced stage when it may be difficult to save the victim."he said
Meanwhile the Rivers state government has declared "Operation Kill all Rats" in the state after 6 people died from the disease in the state.

Lassa fever is a deadly fever transmitted by rats. It can be prevented by keeping a clean environment. Early symptoms of the disease include fever, headache, chills, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, sore throat, backache, and joint pains. Late symptoms include bleeding from the eyes, ears and nose, bleeding from the mouth and rectum, eye swelling, swelling of the genitals and rashes all over the body that often contain blood. It could progress to coma, shock and death.

Copenhagen (AFP) - A Danish tourist returning from Latin America has been diagnosed with the Zika virus, which has been blamed for a surge in birth defects in Brazil and other countries in the region, a hospital said.

"A Danish tourist who travelled to Central and South America was diagnosed on his return with the Zika virus," Aarhus hospital in eastern Denmark said in a statement late Tuesday.

Britain has also reported a handful of cases in travellers returning from South America.                  Source : business insider

     It's every woman's worst fashion nightmare: turning up at a fancy event in a hotel in the same outfit as someone else.

But what happens when they turn up wearing the same outfit as… the hotel?

    This was the dilemma faced by a woman in a photograph that has caused much laughter across the internet.

Reddit user wickensworth posted a picture with the cryptic title, "So my friend checked into a random hotel, and then this happened".

What had happened was that their friend had worn a top that was an exact match - in both colours and design - for the corridor of the hotel.

    In the amazing photo, she poses in the corridor and tugs at the shoulders of her top, which blends in with its background seamlessly.

The bemused look on the woman's face says it all: it's not every day you find you've worn the same outfit as the interior of a hotel.

Her top, white and green with a dark stripe running through the centre, looks just like the hotel corridor.

    One person commented on photo-sharing site Imgur: "Well one of us is going to have to change".

Another questioned whether there was a person in the photo at all, quipping: "Yeah that's a nice hallway… can we get a picture of your friend?"

Tim Cook confirms: iPhone sales are going to fall for the first time in history

  For the first time in iPhone history, Apple next quarter is bracing for a year over year decline in iPhone sales. As it turns out, recent reports that Apple was scaling back iPhone orders with component suppliers were more accurate than we initially gave them credit for.

During the current March quarter, Apple anticipates that revenue will fall somewhere between $50 and $53 billion. By way of contrast, Apple during its 2015 March quarter posted revenue of $58 billion. And seeing as how the iPhone remains Apple's primary revenue driver, it stands to reason that a drop off in revenue will be closely tied to a corresponding drop off in quarterly iPhone sales.

When asked to touch on future iPhone sales projections, Cook engaged in a bit of damage control and tried to reassure everyone that the upcoming drop-off in iPhone sales won't be as drastic as some might believe.

"We do think iPhone units will decline in the quarter," Cook said. "We don't think that they will decline to the levels you'll talk about. We aren't going to project beyond the upcoming quarter."

Earlier in the call, Cook tried to set a more positive tone by harping on how well the iPhone performed during the company's recent 2015 holiday quarter. As we reported earlier, Apple last quarter sold 74.8 million iPhones during the last three months of 2015, setting a new sales record in the process.

This is a huge accomplishment for our company, especially given the turbulent world around us. In constant currency, our growth rate would have been 8 percent. Our record revenue and continued strong operating performance also led to an all-time record quarterly net income of 18.4 billion dollars. We sold 74.8 million iPhones in the December quarter, an all-time high. To put that volume into perspective, it's an average of over 34,000 iPhones an hour, 24 hours a day, seven days a week for 13 straight weeks. It's almost 50 percent more than our Q1 volume just two years ago, and more than four times our volume five years ago.
Indeed, investors already seem to be ignoring Apple's record breaking quarter – both from a financial and sales perspective – as shares of Apple are currently down more than 2% in after-hours trading.

Of course, the larger question here is if the upcoming year over year decline in iPhone sales is simply an anomaly or perhaps an indication of things to come. While it may be too soon to tell, I think iPhone sales the remainder of the year will be quite impressive. Not only do we have the rumored iPhone 5se supposedly dropping sometime in April, but the iPhone 7 will likely usher in an absolutely monstrous refresh cycle.                         Source:BGR News

The untreatable Zika virus just made its way into another US territory — and it's not letting up anytime soon

The Zika virus, which is quickly becoming a global problem, has made its way into another US territory. 

The CDC released travel health notices Tuesday that named two more places in which the disease has spread via mosquito bites: The US Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic. 

 The Zika virus is primarily transmitted by Aedes aegypti, the type of mosquito responsible for spreading dengue, yellow fever, and a whole host of other tropical infectious diseases.

 Originally identified in 1947 in Uganda, Zika was relatively unknown until 2007, when there was an outbreak of the virus in Micronesia. The mosquitoes pick up the virus from infected people, according to the CDC. 

There is no vaccine or treatment for Zika.

The increased presence of the virus, coupled with its connection with birth defects in babies whose mothers have been infected with the disease, has led to a number of CDC alerts and guidelines in recent weeks.

  For example, the CDC's travel notices are especially geared toward pregnant women, because of concerns about the virus' connection to brain abnormalities in babies and other neurological conditions. 

 Brazil, one of the areas hit hardest by the disease, has had about 20 times normal amount of babies born with a condition called microcephaly in 2015 compared to 2014. This birth defect, in which the brain is abnormally small, was often found after the mother had Zika virus-like symptoms early in the pregnancy.

 Researchers still aren't sure whether the virus causes the birth defects, but there does appear to be a link. Earlier this week, the CDC issued interim guidelines for pregnant women traveling to countries where the disease is being transmitted, while some countries have gone as far as to advise citizens not to get pregnant.

Because Zika hasn't posed a threat until very recently, there aren't many treatments or vaccines in development, though companies are jumping on board to find possible ways to fight back against a possible epidemic. Others are trying to target the mosquito itself and kill it off to keep the disease from spreading, but it might be a while before those efforts are widely spread.

In view of this, the ICT Unit of the University of Nigeria requires you to ensure that you complete the online registration of the GSP courses you take, if you have not done so. You are to do this before Friday, February 12, 2016.

The first location the 31-year-old shares where she's "gotten down and dirty," is a private plane, which she rates a 5/5.

"Doing it on a private plane is great, especially when there are other passengers on board. It's part of the thrill," she explains. "I walked into the bathroom first and then he followed so it wasn't exactly stealth, haha!!! Everyone obviously knew what was going on and when I walked out, they asked if we had fun."

Another spot Khloe claims is the craziest, but not her favorite, is in a moving car.

"Don't try this at home," the reality star warns of the location she rated 2/5. "Someone else was driving and I was in the backseat, but I'm a tall girl so it feels cramped and it hurts my f**king knees. Getting down in a moving car is a waste of time, because nothing happens for me. I just don't get to the finish line! If you're down for a thrill, then by all means, but this one gets a low rating from me!"

The third and final location seems a bit more safe and simple than the other places but she cautions it can be "cold."

Khloe rates the kitchen counter a whopping 5/5!

"You're at home, so it's comfortable, but it's still a little different than the norm," she shares. "A marble kitchen counter is sexy, thrilling … and cold, LOL!"
